Rebels battle through weather to beat Milan
Wednesday, April 30, 2014 11:00 AM
Southwestern battled through bad weather conditions to sweep Milan 4-0 in girls tennis on Tuesday in Hanover.
The Rebels weren't tested in any of the four wins. The closest match was never completed because the Rebels had already secured the team win with foul weather approaching. Abbey Garrett led Izzy Ortle 6-2, 4-2 at No. 1 singles when the match was called.
"Good win for us in some really nasty wind," Southwestern coach Kenny Garrett said. "The girls went out and played with a sense of urgency with the bad weather and I think it really helped some of them to play at a little quicker pace."
Results were: Singles - No. 1 Abbey Garrett (SW) led Izzy Ortle (M) 6-2, 4-2; No. 2 Sarah Anderson (SW) d. Autumn Bowling (M) 6-2, 6-1; No. 3 Emily Watkins (SW) d. Emily Seaven (M) 6-0, 6-0. Doubles - No. 1 Jordan Worcester, Kearstin Bruther (SW) d. Alex Owens, Tapanga Gauck (M) 6-0, 6-0; No. 2 Meredith Webber, Heather Totten (SW) d. Brooke Bowling, Alexis Ambegin (M) 6-0, 6-1.
