Shawe tennis swept all three singles matches and picked up a doubles win as well to pull away for a 4-1 victory over Jennings County at home on Thursday.

Taylor Grote, Claire Higgins and Megan Hill each won singles matches in straight sets. Hannah Storm and Jenna Armstrong won their doubles match in three sets.

"This is my fifth year coaching tennis at Shawe and the first time we've defeated Jennings County. I gotta say it's a great feeling," Shawe coach Steve Sims said. "I am very proud of all of our girls tonight. All seven of them played well and are progressing every day! Jenna and Hannah really showed me a lot tonight by playing in a long match and coming out on top!"

Doubles - No. 1 Brittany Lykins, Elaine Lykins (JC) d. Carson Hambrick, Lauren Cieslinski (SM) 7-6 (7-4), 6-4; No. 2 Hannah Storm, Jenna Armstrong (SM) d. Cassie Leach, Hailee Harmon (JC) 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3.

Shawe (2-1) visits Madison on Saturday.

Madison girls open with 3-2 loss to Lawrenceburg

Madison girls tennis opened the 2014 season with a narrow 3-2 loss to Lawrenceburg at home on Thursday.

The Cubs swept both doubles matches but fell in each of the three singles matches.

Match results were: Singles - No. 1 Sydney Romines (LB) d. Anna Bruns (M) 6-1, 6-4; No. 2 Maddie McMullen (LB) d. Riley Boone (M) 6-1, 6-0; No. 3 Kelley Gessner (LB) d. Cara Walker (M) 4-6, 6-0, 6-1; Doubles - No. 1 Maddie Robinson and Annie Marsh (M) d. Cheyenne Younger and Abbie Hornberger (LB) 6-2, 6-4; No. 2 Hannah Brady and Emma Staicer (M) d. Cera Hutchinson and Kaylie Martin (LB) 6-4, 6-3.

Madison (0-1) hosts Shawe on Saturday.
