Mother Nature showed no love to local sports teams on Valentine's Day, postponing every event on the calendar with a burst of winter weather on Friday that left most area roads snow-covered by nightfall.
The biggest hit came to the IHSAA Girls Basketball Tournament where all local sectional games on Friday were postponed until today. One of the sectionals will now be played under a regional format with two semifinals this morning and early afternoon and the championship later tonight.
Madison's contest against Silver Creek at Charlestown will now be played at noon today with Scottsburg and Salem scheduled for 10 a.m. Southwestern and Switzerland County's showdown at Milan will be at 4 p.m. today with South Ripley and Austin at 6 p.m.
The Charlestown Sectional final will be at 7:30 p.m. today while the Milan championship will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Monday
Carroll County's boys basketball game at Owen County, Carroll's girls game at Williamstown and Trimble County's girls basketball game at Owen County have also been postponed. No make-up dates have been announced.
The winter weather has already affected today's schedule as well. Southwestern's home boys basketball game with Christian Academy has been rescheduled for Thursday with the junior varsity at 6 p.m. Switzerland County's home boys basketball game against South Ripley has been moved to Tuesday night.
As of Friday night, Madison's boys home basketball game with Providence was to be played as scheduled with a 1 p.m. junior varsity start.
