Trimble girls start too late against Owen Co.

Trimble County dug itself a 34-20 halftime hole and trailed 46-28 with a quarter to play en route to a 57-47 girls basketball loss to Owen County on Friday night in Bedford.
The Raiders came on strong in the fourth quarter to outscore the Rebels 19-11 in the stretch, but the damage had already been done, according to Trimble coach Kerrie Stewart.
"We played better in the fourth quarter but it was too late by then," Stewart said. "We can really bring it some nights, and we need to bring it every night and for four quarters. We just didn't do that tonight."
The Raiders problem in the first half was one of tempo, Stewart said. Trimble wanted a fast-paced game with the Rebels but ended up playing quick rather than fast.
"We were just in a big rush the entire first half," Stewart said. "We want to play fast but sometimes we confuse fast with rushing. We took a lot of shots without anyone under the boards and Owen County really took advantage when we missed."
Rebounding ended up being a huge factor in the game. The Rebels outboarded the Raiders 45-23 - a statistic that was stinging the Trimble coach long after the game.
"Fundamentally we just didn't rebound well and rebounding is fundamentals," she said. "The job we do on the boards on a typical night would have been good enough tonight but we didn't do that. If we had had our typical night rebounding, things might have been different."
Paige Black led the Raiders with 14 points while Erin Gonterman scored 11 - including three 3-pointers - and Kaylee Clifford knocked down a pair of treys en route to her 10-point night.
Owen County got a game-high 18 points from senior guard Hannah Neeley.
