Living Nativity

The Shawe Theatre Department will be staging a Live Nativity on the front lawn of Pope John Elementary with student actors, live animals, caroling and Christmas treats. Visitors can drive by or park and visit the manger scene.

Christmas Play

Bedford Christian Church

Dec. 21-22 — 7 p.m.

Bedford Christian Church will stage two performances of “Never Too Old for Christmas,” directed by Kim Temple, on consecutive nights at the church in Bedford, Kentucky. There is no charge but cash donations will be accepted to benefit the local food pantry.

Opportunities in December

With Christmas and the holidays approaching, the American Red Cross urges donors to continue to make and keep appointments now and in the weeks ahead to help overcome the ongoing emergency blood and platelet shortage that has significantly impacted the nation’s blood supply. In fact, the current blood supply is the lowest the Red Cross has seen this time of year in more than a decade. Dates, times and locations of local blood drives are:

Create a Christmas Ornament

Visit the Nature Center between 11 a.m. and noon to make fun ornaments to hang on your tree at home.

Women’s Hiking Group

Saturday, Dec. 11 — 3 p.m.

Meet at the Poplar Grove Shelter to join up for the monthly women’s group hike and enjoy the outdoors and meet like-minded women for an hour-long, rugged hike is rugged.

Woodpecker Walk

Saturday, Dec. 18 — 10 a.m.

There are seven species of woodpeckers that call Clifty Falls State Park home so bring binoculars and meet the naturalist at Clifty Shelter for a 45-minute ADA accessible walk to search for them. (Note: Restroom at Clifty Shelter is closed for the winter, so plan ahead).

Trail Clean-up

Saturday, Dec. 18 — 3 p.m.

Meet at Clifty Shelter to help pick up trash along Trail 7, Clifty Shelter and the parking lot during a one hour clean-up. Trash bags and gloves will be provided and admission is free. (Note: Restroom at Clifty Shelter is closed for the winter, so plan ahead).
