The first two contestants — Abigail Hill and Katie Royce — are entered in the 2022 Miss Madison Regatta Pageant.

Royce shared the title last year with Chloe Ferris after only two contestants entered, no pageant was held and organizers decided that both should preside over the festival. Since there was no a pageant in 2021, Royce was given the opportunity to compete this year and she embraced the opportunity.

“I love my community, friends and family and I could not be more thankful to have been born and raised in Madison,” said Royce, a 2021 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School who is attending Bellarmine University and majoring in elementary education and minoring in English, is the daughter of Bill and Jennifer DeVries and Jamie and Becky Royce.

Hill, a 2021 graduate of Shawe Memorial High School, is attending Purdue University where she is pursuing hospitality and tourism management. She is the daughter of Chris and Natalie Hill of Madison. Hill played volleyball and tennis at Shawe, along with being senior class president and president of the National Honor Society. She is working this summer as an intern for the City of Madison, which she said has given her “a taste of what it is like to work closely with my community.”

The Miss Madison Regatta Pageant will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 27, at Madison Consolidated High School’s Opal Sherman Auditorium. The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship and reign over Regatta Week festivities. The first runner-up will receive a $250 scholarship. Girls ages 18-22 are eligible and the entry/sponsorship fee is $150 per contestant. Deadline to enter is Thursday, June 16.

The girl who is crowned the queen will participate in all the events during the Madison Regatta Festival with the first and second runners-up also being asked to attend some Regatta related events.

The Miss Teen and Miss Preteen contest will be at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 25 and the Miss Princess and Little Miss contests will be at noon on Saturday, June 25, both at Opal Sherman Auditorium. The Cutie Pie and Baby contests will be Thursday, June 30, at Bicentennial Park with registration starting at 5:30 p.m. and the Baby contest starting at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Cutie Pie contest.

Entry fee for the Miss Teen, Miss Preteen, Miss Princess and Little Miss contests is $55 per contestant and the entry deadline is Wednesday, June 15. The Miss Teen contest is for girls ages 15-17, Miss Preteen is for ages 12-14, Miss Princess is for girls ages 9-11 and the Little Miss is for ages 6-8.

Registration for the Cutie Pie and Baby contests will be day of the event on June 30 with a $10 entry fee per contestant paid in cash. No checks will be accepted. Boys and girls from 0 to 23 months are eligible for the Baby contest and compete in a red, white and blue outfit or swimwear. Boys and girls ages 2 to 5 years are eligible for the Cutie Pie contest and they will compete in red, white and blue summer wear.
