The Madison-Jefferson County Animal Shelter currently has a number of dogs and cats and kittens available for adoption.

Jack is a sweet tuxedo bobtail cat who loves playing and getting lots of scratches. He is neutered and up to date on his rabies vaccination to the adoption fee is $80.

Amina is a 6-month old mixed breed puppy. She has been spayed and had her rabies vaccination so her adoption fee is $100.

The shelter has pictures of additional pets waiting for adoption for viewing at www.sisaveapet.com.

Due to the COVID pandemic, the shelter is open by appointment only on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 1 p.m. To schedule an appointment, email the shelter at animal.shelter39@ jeffersoncounty.in.gov or call 812-273-1788.

The shelter’s new adoption policy requires that all animals be spay/neutered and have their rabies vaccination before they can leave the facility. Animals that haven’t been neutered and vaccinated can be pre-adopted but they will remain at the shelter until their surgery is completed. Adoption fee for dogs is $100 and cats $80.

Those with missing pets can call or email a complete description of the pet, when and where it was last seen, the owner’s name and contact information, and a picture of the pet. Pets are held for three days before they are made available for adoption. Animals should not be abandoned outside of the shelter or dropped off at the shelter after hours.
