Stan Weber at his 2010 Southwestern Hall of Fame induction in January 2011

Ahead of this week’s Turkey Shootout basketball games between Madison and Southwestern, Madison Mayor Bob Courtney will hold a special ceremony at tonight’s Madison City Council meeting to recognize a former resident with ties to both programs by proclaiming Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022, Stanley Weber Day.

Stan Weber, the last living member of the Madison Cubs 1950 IHSAA state championship team, will be recognized by proclamation and presented a Distinguished Hoosier Award from Governor Eric Holcomb’s office. On Wednesday there will be a private luncheon in Weber’s honor with another Indiana basketball legend, Bobby Plump of the 1954 state champion Milan Indians, as guest speaker. Later on Wednesday, Weber will be recognized at the annual Turkey Shootout between the Cubs and Rebels at Connor K. Salm Gym.
