Madison Plaza Group LLC, developers of the proposed The Shoppes at Sunrise Crossing, have scheduled a groundbreaking for that national retail development for Tuesday, July 12.
According to Tony Steinhardt III, director of Madison’s office of Economic Development, the groundbreaking will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the site and the hopes are that the developers will release the names of the national retailers who will occupy the 155,000 square feet of shops to be built on the 8-acre site.
The project, announced in March at the former Madison Plaza site that has sat dormant for a decade at the corner of Clifty Drive and Michigan Road, plans to create about 250 jobs with a $10 million annual payroll.
While the retail portion of the project will occupy the western 8 acres of the former plaza site, the overall property is more than 22 acres with the remainder scheduled for development as a 190-unit multi-family housing complex called The Residences at Sunrise Crossing.
According to Steinhardt, the sale of bonds to finance The Shoppes at Sunrise Crossing — one of two major developments selling development bonds this month — is scheduled for today, June 14. The other development, a $60 million expansion of SuperATV’s facilities in Madison, will sell those bonds on Thursday, June 16.
SuperATV’s two phase 125,000 square foot expansion of its production, logistics and warehousing facilities on Michigan Road and research and development facility on Clifty Drive, is expected to created 315 new jobs and $17 million in annual payroll.
