Hanover’s Board of Zoning Appeals on Monday approved a conditional use permit for the construction of a new cellphone tower in Hanover as early as next spring.

The request was made by TowerCo, based in Carey, North Carolina, for a wireless communication tower on property that company will lease from the town of Hanover at its maintenance building and yard, 334 Lowery Lane. The facility will consist of a fenced 50-foot-by-50-foot compound, a 198-foot monopole tower with a one-foot lightning rod on top for an overall 199 foot height. The conditional use permit was approved for 30 years — the same length as the lease agreement with the town.
