An Ohio man is facing felony assault and wanton endangerment charges in connection with the shooting of another than in an alleged road rage incident Sunday on Interstate 71 in Henry County, Kentucky.
Dispatchers at the Kentucky State Police No. 5 received a 911 call reporting a shooting on I-71 near the 38-mile marker, about 4 miles north of the Campbellsburg interchange where the post is based.
The caller reported that his passenger had been shot multiple times by a person in another vehicle and provided a description of the vehicle as well as registration plate information.
The vehicle, which was traveling north, was located later on Interstate 75 by Boone County Sheriff’s deputies. The preliminary investigation found the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident prior to the shooting.
The wounded passenger was transported to the University Hospital in Louisville. Neither his identity nor extent of injuries have not released.
The suspect, Dammien Shammond Peterson, 22, of Columbus, Ohio, was arrested and charged with Assault-First Degree and Wanton Endangerment-First Degree and lodged at the Oldham County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
The investigation is ongoing by Kentucky State Police Post 5 detectives.
Snowy conditions cited in I-7 fatality
A traffic crash during Monday night’s snowstorm led to the death of a Kentucky man on Interstate-71 near Sparta, Kentucky, in Gallatin County.
Kentucky State Police responded to the accident scene near the 55-mile marker. A preliminary investigation by troopers indicated that Mohamed Kassem, 26, of Paducah, Kentucky, lost control of the vehicle he was driving due to snowy road conditions and the vehicle left the roadway and collided with an unoccupied commercial vehicle parked on the emergency shoulder.
Kassem was transported to the University Hospital in Louisville where he died from injuries suffered in the collision.
A KSP investigation into the crash is ongoing with standard toxicology reports pending at this time. The Post 5 accident reconstruction team was assisted by the Gallatin County EMS, Gallatin County Fire, and the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office.
Driver dies trying to avoid deer on US 127
A Kentucky man whose vehicle collided with another vehicle when he apparently swerved to avoid deer in the roadway died Sunday night on US 127 South of Owenton, Kentucky.
Joshua Seth Rembert, 28, of Covington, Kentucky, pronounced dead at the scene by the Owen County coroner.
Rembert was traveling south on US 127 at about 7:12 p.m. when he swerved to avoid two deer in the roadway and struck another vehicle that was traveling north.
