Members of the Jefferson County Board of Tourism said on Monday that a proposal to increase the county’s Innkeepers Tax will likely not see action for at least a year.

Increasing the tax, currently at 5% on all guest lodgings in the county, has been under consideration by board members in recent months as a way to collect more money from tourists to then be used to support existing tourism and grow an industry city officials say brings in about $40 million annually.
