O Christmas Fountain

Madison Street Department worker Billy Applegate (bottom) provides ground support while Richard Jester works from a bucket truck while stringing holiday nights in the shape of a tree at the Broadway Fountain last week in preparation for Madison’s Light Up Merry Madison event at 6 p.m. on Friday. They and fellow crew member Trev Snyder have been busy string lights, garlands and other holiday decorations throughout Madison’s Main Street and downtown parks.

The city Madison, town of Hanover and Jefferson County offices will all be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday and the city of Madison’s Light Up Merry Madison event — the official start of the holiday season in Madison — will be Friday night at the Broadway Fountain.

The city of Madison street department and transfer station will be closed Thursday for the Thanksgiving holiday with trash and recycle delayed one day. Compost will not run Friday. The transfer station will close Friday at noon and re-open Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
