The Jefferson County Health Department will be administering Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 booster vaccines to eligible recipients effective immediately.

Vaccines will be administered by appointment or on a walk-in basis. Appointments can be scheduled at any time by visiting For those needing assistance scheduling their appointment please call 211, they can assist you with scheduling an appointment.

Booster doses are currently available to individuals age 18 and older only.

Those who received Moderna or Pfizer as their initial series will need to wait 6 months after their second dose and the booster dose. Individuals who received Johnson & Johnson only require 2 months between doses. Moderna boosters will be given at one half of the dosage given in the initial series. Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson booster dosages will remain the same. Mixing and matching of manufacturers will be allowed.

JCHD reports people who have been vaccinated may still be able to infect others, so even those who are vaccinated should continue wearing a mask and quarantining if they are in close contact of a positive case.

In Jefferson County, the positivity rate currently is 9.3% with 20 new cases of COVID-19 in the last two days, raising the county’s total to 5,112. The county’s overall death total during the pandemic remains at 97.

Switzerland County’s COVID positivity rate is 10.2% with two additional cases of COVID-19 in the last two days, putting its overall total at 1,350. Switzerland County’s overall death total remains at 11.

In Trimble County, the positivity rate is 13.24% with 13 new cases of COVID-19 in the last two days, increasing its overall total to 1,201. Trimble’s death total remains at 17.

Carroll County’s positivity rate is 8,84% with 17 new cases of COVID-19 in the last two days, increasing the overall total to 1,858. Carroll’s death total remains at 26.
