In the early afternoon of Wednesday, July 6, the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle traffic accident on State Road 3 just south of the Crosley Wildlife Refuge check-in station.

The subsequent investigation indicated that a 2006 GMC Envoy, driven by Elmer Hall, age 73, of North Vernon, was traveling southbound on State Road 3 and veered off the west side of the roadway and struck a tree. According to the sheriff’s report, it was determined that a medical issue caused the accident.

Elmer was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Jennings County Corner’s Office. A passenger in the vehicle was injured and taken to a local medical facility for treatment.

Elmer was born in Seymour on March 21, 1949 to parents John and Mabel (Hanner) Hall. He graduated from Medora High School and retired from roofing and construction. He was a member of Amvet’s and Moose Lodge, both in North Vernon. Elmer enjoyed playing pool and horseshoes, drinking beer, canoeing, and spending time with his friends.

The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Jennings County EMS, Jennings County Central Dispatch, Vernon Fire Rescue, Jennings County Corners Office and Pearson’s Towing.
