The Jennings County High School girl’s track and field team competed in IHSAA Sectional 27 at Seymour High School on Tuesday Evening. The team placed fifth overall with a combined 63 points. A relay and two individuals will be advancing to the Bloomington Regional competition next Tuesday.

The Jennings County 4 x 800 relay team consisting of Elizabeth Wahlman, Halle Franks, Sarah Poole, and Grace Gambrel placed second in the race with a time of 11:19.81. A second place finish was high enough for the team to move on to the next step in the post season. Senior Brantley Wathen ran a 51.84 in the 300m hurdles event, placing third and advancing her to the regionals, and senior MaKenna Maschino placed second in the shot put, with a best throw of 35’ 4” and will compete in Bloomington. All these members will be eyeing a top 3 finish at regionals in order to advance to the IHSAA State Finals.

Others scoring points for the Lady Panthers were Rachel Manning, placing eighth in the 100 meter and seventh in the 200 meter, Elizabeth Wahlman placing fifth and Elizabeth Evans placing sixth in the 800 meter, Halle Franks placing fifth and Wahlman playing eighth in the 1600 meter, Franks placing fourth and Grace Gambrel placing sixth in the 3200 meter, and Brantley Wathen placed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles. The Jennings County relay teams placed sixth in the 4 x 100 and seventh in the 4 x 400. In field events, Kali Thompson placed seventh in the shot put, MaKenna Maschino placed fourth in the discus, and Rilee Hicks placed eighth in the long jump.

IHSAA Regional 7 hosted by Bloomington North High School will take place next Tuesday, May 25. The event is currently set to begin at 6 p.m.
