Dollar Tree

10 minutes before the opening of Dollar Tree, many residents lined up anxiously.

Locals of North Vernon flocked to the plaza in between Highways 3 & 7 to greet the opening of Jennings County’s newest variety store, Dollar Tree. Jennings County is also home to a Family Dollar, as well as two Dollar General stores, however, a store whose slogan is “Everything’s $1” was enough to bring quite the crowd. Located at the former home of Jay C Food Store, Ace Hardware, and other businesses, the Dollar Tree has completed an extensive makeover, as a bright shade of green fills the former red color that marked the building for many years.

The grand opening of the store was set for noon on Saturday, and as this reporter arrived to the store at 11:50, a line of a few dozen people had formed in front of the doors. To onlookers, the crowd could have been mistaken for a Black Friday mass, as the crowd quickly grew to 50 plus by noon. When the store finally opened its doors nearly seven minutes past the hour, to a rather disapproving crowd, the line had grown to at least 70, reaching back to the western wall of the Schneck Family Care building.

Management at Dollar Tree was unable to comment on the opening of the new location.

The new Dollar Tree is located at 2130 N. State Highway 7, and is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
