The Jennings County High School baseball team rounded out their regular season this past weekend, going 1-2 against Scottsburg and Shelbyville. On May 26, before this edition of the Plain Dealer and Sun comes out, Jennings County will travel to Floyd Central to place New Albany in the first round of IHSAA Sectional 15. On Friday evening, Jennings County traveled to Scottsburg and lost 5-2. Austin Martin was the starting pitcher for the Panthers, giving up four hits and four runs through the first two and one-third innings. Carson McNulty came in to try to make the save for the Panthers, however he was unsuccessful, giving up three hits, one earned run, and four walks on four strike outs. Lane Zohrlaut was the lone hit for the Panthers, tallying one RBI. Jacob Vogel had the other RBI, with Martin and McNulty scoring the two runs.
Saturday, the Panthers hosted Shelbyville for a double header. In the first game of the day, Shelbyville won 9-1. Cole Sigler was the losing pitcher for the Panthers, giving up five hits and three earned runs with one walk through four and a third innings. Peyton Hayden finished the game, also giving up five hits and three earned runs, with two walks and two strikeouts. McNulty went 3 for 4 in the first game, with Logan McIntosh having the lone RBI and Zohrlaut having the lone run. In the second game of the day, Jennings County turned the tide and won 8-0. Keegan Manowitz was the winning pitcher in the shutout, giving up four hits through six innings, and striking out six batters. McInotsh was the closer, giving up one hit and striking out one batter during the last inning. McNulty went 2 for 3, with one run and four RBIs. Martin had two RBIs and Manowitz and Sigler each had one. Scoring runs for the Panthers were McIntosh (2), Jacob Vogel (1), Martin (1), Sigler (1), Ethan Brown (1), and Greyson Jackson (1).
If the Panthers win on Wednesday in round 1 of the sectional, they will face the winner of Seymour v. Floyd Central on Saturday 5/29 with the game starting at 5:30 p.m.
