Last Thursday, the Jennings County High School boy’s track and field team hosted and competed in IHSAA Sectional 27, and ended up being only three points short of victory, falling short to rival Seymour by a score of 122-119. In order to advance to IHSAA Regional competition, a participant or relay team must finish in the top 3 of their sectional event. Jennings County will be sending a large group of boys to the regional competition this year.

Advancing to regionals for Jennings County was the 4x800 meter relay team of Lane Elsner, Aidan Ernstes, Brenden Baker, and Gavin Hendrix, as they placed first with a time of 8:35.06, Cole Marksberry, placing third in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 16.37. Hendrix will also compete in the 1600 meter run, as he placed first in a time of 4:35.56. Logan McInotsh placed third in the 400 meter dash in a time of 53.95. Elsner and Hendrix came across the line in first and second in the 800 meter run in times of 2:06.10 and 2:08.39, and Eli Wahlman and Brenden Baker will also compete at Bloomington after placing second and third in the 3200 meter run with times of 10:19.01 and 10:26.57. The 4x400 meter team of McIntosh, Hendrix, Marksberry, and Elsner placed third in a time of 3:37.83. Advancing in the field events are Evan Sochacki, placing second in the pole vault with a 10’ vault, and Zane Ortlieb placing first in both the discus and shot put with best throws of 138’3” and 47’9” respectively.
