Autumn Stroll

Brave souls took advantage of the break in the rain Friday evening to go out and view all the decorated light poles and window displays downtown.

It was not a perfect autumn day for North Vernon Main Street’s first ever Autumn Stroll last Friday, but a few determined souls braved the rainy weather in order to enjoy the warm drinks and live music performed by Connor Ertel at the new Main Street office located on Stellar Plaza. They came armed with raincoats, umbrellas and a map of all the downtown window and light pole displays that were decorated for the fall season.

Most of the judging took place on the Autumn Stroll Facebook page where people could like their favorite displays.

First and second place was awarded for each category with three possible awards: Judge’s Choice, People’s Choice and Mayor’s Choice.

Congratulations to all our Autumn Stroll decorating contest winners!

Dave O’Mara Contractor, Inc. won first place in the lightpole category for both the Judge’s Choice and the People’s Choice awards.

Hoosier Home Furnishings won first place in the window category for the Judge’s Choice award.

Second place in the lightpole category for the Judge’s Choice award was Crimson Oak Restaurant & Pub.

Second place in the window category for the Judge’s Choice award was North Vernon Plain Dealer & Sun.

For the People’s Choice awards,

First place in the window category was Serendipity Mercantile and there was a tie for second by Classic Stained Glass & Gift Gallery, Inc. and Hoosier Home Furnishings.

Second place in the light-pole category was Miller’s Tavern.

Mayor’s Choice for the window display went to Hoosier Home Furnishing. For the light pole category, Mayor Mike Ochs could not choose between two entries, so awarded the prize to both Dave O’Mara Contractor, Inc and Crimson Oak Restaurant & Pub.

“It just goes to show how people will come together to beautify the city,” said Mayor Ochs.

Main Street Director Anna Walker thanks all the businesses and organizations who participated and is looking forward to next year’s contest and Autumn Stroll event.
