Barbara Ann Bilz, 88, of Columbus, Indiana, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at her home.

She was born on Aug. 31, 1933, in Jennings County, Indiana, to Stewart Charles Sears and Dorothy Ann Farlow. She married Robert L. Bilz on April 13, 1956, in Scottsburg, Indiana. She had worked as a teller at Irwin Union Bank at Eastbrook Plaza in Columbus and later became a realtor and eventually obtained her broker’s license while working at Carl Williams Reality and various other real estate companies in the community. She attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the women’s bridge club for more than 40 years. She was a big supporter of anything where her children were involved including schools, PTA, being a Brownie leader and room parent. She was a jewelry and antique China collector.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years of Columbus; her children, Darlene Radcliff of Mishawaka, Indiana, Stephen Bilz of Freetown, Indiana and Suzanne Kanehl of Columbus; a brother, Phillip Sears; and five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Eddie and Stewart Sears.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Columbus with a live stream of the service available on the church website at www.stpeterscolumbus.org. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home in Columbus and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus with a lunch planned afterwards for anybody who wishes to attend. The family asks everyone in attendance to please wear a face mask.
