Barbara Jean Backus Myers, 73, of Chelsea, Indiana, died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at the Norton King’s Daughters’ Health Emergency Room in Madison, Indiana.

She was born on Nov. 26, 1948, in Madison, Indiana, to John Charles and Pansy Marie Spry Backus. She was raised in Madison and was a 1968 graduate of Holmes High School in Covington, Kentucky. She worked early in life at the Perry and Dunbar Drug Store soda fountain in downtown Madison where she met her future husband who worked in deliveries at the drug store. She married Paul Daniel “Rock” Myers on Jan. 1, 1971, in downtown Madison, and they had a son. She was a homemaker, a member of Austin Baptist Temple Church and loved her pets, flowers, listening to Elvis Presley and caring for her late husband.

Survivors include her son, Matt Myers of Chelsea; her brothers, Pete Backus and Rick Backus, both of Madison and Eddie Soden and Bobby Soden, both of Covington; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 51 years and other relatives.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Visitation is 4 p.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
