Charles E. Baurley, 77, of Versailles, Indiana, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana. He was born at home near Rexville, Indiana, on March 19, 1943, to William and Eva Gigerich Baurley. He married Lynn Geisler on Oct. 14, 1967, and had three daughters and a son. He was a 1961 graduate of New Marion High School, received his bachelor’s degree in education from Hanover College in 1965 and his master’s from Indiana University in 1969. He began his teaching career at New Marion where he taught for one year and coached basketball. He then spent the next 39 years teaching business at South Ripley and in the early years did some junior varsity coaching. After school, he enjoyed his farm and raising cattle and fishing and hunting. He was a lifelong member of the St. Magdalene Catholic Church in New Marion and upon its closing became a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Madison.

Survivors include three daughters Tammy Linville of Osgood, Indiana and Amy Rodriguez and Lisa Baurley, both of Versailles; two brothers Robert Baurley of Versailles and Ray Baurley of Milan, Indiana; a sister Doris Korte of Clarksville, Indiana; and four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, John Baurley; a brother George Baurley; and a sister, Carol Ann Baurley.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Madison. Burial will be in the St. Magdalene Cemetery in Madison. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
