Connie Jean “Con” Scott Gabbard, 78, of Cross Plains, Indiana, died Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Margaret Mary Hospital Community Hospital in Batesville, Indiana.
She was born on Dec. 31, 1942, in Jefferson County, Indiana, to John R. and Irma M. Heiderman Scott. She was raised in Cross Plains and resided in the same home for her entire life. She graduated from Cross Plains High School and was a member of the Cross Plains Baptist Church. She worked early in life for the US Shoe Corporation in Vevay, Indiana, and for the Halcomb family as a housekeeper. She retired after 28 years of service to the South Ripley School Corporation where she was a custodian. She married William “Bill” Gabbard on Nov. 2, 1974, in Tennessee and raised six children. She loved mowing her lawn, raising beautiful flowers and gardens and enjoyed coaching softball for five years and teaching her children to play the game. She often socialized at the Cross Plains Store.
Survivors include her daughters, Marsha Scott Foley and Lisa Redwine, both of Madison, Indiana; her sons, Ed Robinson, Andy Robinson and Billy Gabbard, all of Cross Plains, Indiana, Mark Robinson of Madison, Indiana; and 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenneth Wayne Scott; and a half brother, Larry West.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at the South Ripley Junior High School Gymnasium in Versailles, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Those traveling to the cemetery should park in the front lot and enter Door 3 or you may park in the back lot and enter Door 10. Visitation is noon until the time of services Sunday at the gym..
