Lawrence “Dillion” Elston, 79, of Pendleton and Anderson, Indiana and formerly of Jeffersonville, Indiana and Switzerland County and Jefferson County in Indiana, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at the Anderson Community Hospital in Anderson.

He was born Aug. 9, 1941, in Brooksburg, Indiana, to Clarence and Opal Laura Brooks Elston. He was raised on the family farm on Dowell Ridge in Jefferson County and was a 1959 graduate of Central High School in Madison, Indiana. At age 17 he was inducted into the US Army and served from 1959 until he was honorably discharged in 1964. He married Juanita “Dawn” Boggs on Feb. 12, 1965, in Vevay, Indiana, and they had three daughters. He was employed as a steel fitter and welder for Jeffboat in Jeffersonville from 1965 to 1987 and later employed in maintenance for Greater Clark County Schools from 1987 to 1993. He was a member of the East Lynn Christian Church in Anderson, Anderson Solar Masonic Lodge No. 734 F&AM, Bennington Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 407 and the Middletown Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 110. He enjoyed working puzzles, working on small engines and mechanics, spending time with his grandchildren and listening to his wife play piano.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years of Pendleton; two daughters, Dee Ann DeShon of Pendleton and Debra Harmon of Muncie, Indiana; and two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Damita Elston; his brothers, Earl Dean and Lloyd Keith Elston; his sisters, Linda Sue Parker, Shirley Mae Elston and Donna Lou Layne; and a niece, a nephew and a great nephew.

Private family only funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Visitation is 11 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Bennington Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 407 and the Switzerland Masonic Lodge No. 122 F&AM will conduct services. Interment with full military honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post No. 185 and the Vevay VFW Post No. 5396 in the Vevay Cemetery there.

Due to new COVID-19 restrictions, funeral home attendance will be limited to 25 people at a time and the use of face masks and social distancing are absolutely required.
