Edward Leo Hammond, 86, of Vevay, Indiana, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2020, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.

He was born May 8, 1934, in Owen County, Kentucky, to Herbert and Nora McCain Hammond. He was raised in Owen County and attended school there. He married Mariam Ellis on Dec. 19, 1953, in East Enterprise, Indiana and was later married to Gladys E. Hinman on Dec. 18, 1969. He was employed for Stedman Foundry in Aurora, Indiana, for several years until its closing. He was also employed for Bob Fehrman Realty for several years and later as a janitor for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay for 10 years. He enjoyed fishing — especially cat fishing at night — and hunting.

Survivors include his daughters, Sharon Kidwell of Indianapolis and Karen Peters of Seymour, Indiana; two grandchildren, Heather Harris and Brandon Peters; two great grandchildren; a half-brother, Clarence Clifton; a half-sister, Anna New; and other relatives

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys E. Hinman Hammond, on May 27, 2000; and his brothers, Estil Eugene Hammond, Larry Wayne Hammond and Bernard Ray Hammond.

Graveside services were on Friday, Nov. 27, at the Slawson Cemetery in Bennington, Indiana.
