Gary Ray Bonner, 79, of Beach Island, South Carolina, and formerly of Jefferson County, Indiana, died Friday, March 19, 2021, at his home.

He was born on April 3, 1941, in Vanceburg, Kentucky, to Elmer and Effie McCleese Bonner. He was raised by his grandmother, Amanda Flanders, in Vanceburg and graduated school there. He attended Berea College in Kentucky and was inducted into the US Air Force serving during the Vietnam Era. He resided 11 years in Brooksburg, Indiana, and worked for Dow Corning in Carrollton, Kentucky. He had resided in South Carolina the past 20 years and was retired from Unimin Corporation, a global mining company. He loved his many dogs.

Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Anne Bonner Gullion of Madison, Indiana; his step great grandchild, Dakota Morrison; his brother, Denny Bonner of Lexington, Kentucky; and several nieces and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandmother who raised him; his former wife and mother of his daughter, Margaret Miles Bonner, on Dec. 28, 2016; and a brother, James Bonner.

Cremation was chosen and the family will hold their own service in his memory.
