Gregory Lee “Hutch” Hutcherson, age 74, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on November 8, 1948 in La Grange in Oldham County, Kentucky. He was the loving son of the late Glenn and Louise Furnish Hutcherson. He was raised in Trimble County, Kentucky and from the age of 12, he was raised by his paternal grandparents, Breathitt and Helen Hutcherson. He graduated in 1966 from Trimble County High School where he played first base on the baseball team. He then attended Eastern Kentucky University for two years. He began a career with the Indiana Kentucky Electric Corporation working in the coal yard, operating heavy equipment and had obtained his harbor boat license. Hutch retired after 40 years of service with IKEC. On July 12, 1980 he was united in marriage to Cynthia Lynn Schafer Melton at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hunter’s Bottom in Carroll County. This happy union of nearly 43 years blended two families together to raise a son, Troy and a daughter, Jill. He loved all kinds of sports but especially the Cincinnati Reds and was an avid UK Wildcat basketball fan. He also enjoyed golf and fishing. Gregory died on Monday, May 15, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover.

Gregory will be missed by his loving wife of nearly 43 years, Cynthia “Cindy” Lynn Schafer Melton Hutcherson of Madison, IN; his son, Troy Hutcherson of Indianapolis, IN; his daughter, Jill Banks and her husband, Mark of Madison, IN; his grandsons, Daniel, Dylan, and Devin Banks; his sister, Sandy Lane Hall and her husband, Lee of Louisville, KY; his brother, Gordon Hutcherson of Morehead City, NC; his brother in law, Carl Ray Schafer and his wife, Debbie of Madison, IN; his mother in law, Carolyn Lopez of Madison, IN; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Hutcherson, his mother, Louise Furnish Hutcherson Bowling, and his step dad, Floyd Bowling.

Celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at 4 p.m. conducted by, Pastor Jim Kuchera at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison. Friends may visit Sunday May 28, 2023, from 3-4 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre.
