Henry A. Bennett, 86, of Washington, Indiana, died Friday, March 19, 2021, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 16, 1934, in Madison, Indiana, to Genevieve Sauley and Edward Bennett, and grew up there. He married Helen F. Bennett on Aug. 6, 1953, and they had four sons and a daughter. He was retired from Hoosier Energy and devoted his time after retirement to building the chapel and hotel at Mary’s Children Farm located in Bloomington, Indiana. He enjoyed traveling to the Holy Land and was a member of the Devine Will prayer group. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Daviess County Right to Life and traveled many times to Washington, D.C., in support of that cause. His hobbies included fishing, woodworking, watching old westerns and cheering on his favorite teams, the Kentucky Wildcats and Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include three sons, Lee Bennett, Scott Bennett and Marty Bennett and a daughter, Tracey McCain, all of Washington; a sister, Anna Kelly of Madison; and 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 68 years on Nov. 9, 2000; a son, Dan Bennett; his siblings, Charles Bennett, Marylou Smith, Jackie Ralston, Shirley Mundt and Edna “Sis” Tilley; and a great granddaughter.

Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, March 24, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Montgomery, Indiana, with burial at St. John Cemetery there.
