Jeanne “Jackie” Wasson Johnson, 83, formerly of Madison, Indiana, died Wednesday, June 2, 2021, in Maumelle, Arkansas.

She was born in Houston on Nov. 3, 1937, to John and Mary Wasson. She grew up in Memphis and was a 1956 graduate of Whitehaven High School there. She met and married Clifford “Burch” Johnson Sr. and they had two children. They moved to Madison in 1968 when he was transferred with Rotary Lift. She worked as a remedial reading instructor in the English department at Madison Junior High School from 1972-1983. She enjoyed attending and volunteering at her children’s sporting events, was a member of the Madison Cubs Booster Club and the first female to serve on the City of Madison Park Board from 1980-1984. She then lived in Laurel, Mississippi, Nashville, Jacksonville, Florida and Memphis due to her husband’s other transfers and retired in Maumelle, Arkansas, where she enjoyed volunteering at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Academics Plus Charter School, Maumelle AARP Chapter, Maumelle Wellness Center, and the Maumelle Annual Christmas Tour of Homes.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years of Maumell; her son Cliff Johnson and wife Julie of Fishers, Indiana; her daughter Kem Ray and husband Allen of Maumelle; a brother Mike Jarrell; and five grandsons, Dylan Ray, Tanner Ray, Logan Ray, Luke Johnson and Brantley Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles Jarrell.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 19 at the Maumelle Center on the Lake in Maumelle with interment at Memphis Memory Gardens in Memphis.
