Jean Hardwick Crabtree, 78, of Lexington, Indiana, died Thursday, July 15, 2021, at the Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison, Indiana.

She was born on Nov. 12, 1942, in Cincinnati, to Elmer Hulan “Coon” Hardwick Sr. and Bonnie Wilson Hardwick. She was raised in Pulaski County, Kentucky, and moved to Indiana in 1959 and graduated from Dupont High School in 1960. She married Jackie Dean “Jack” Crabtree on Oct. 1, 1961 in Pulaski County, and they had a daughter and a son. She retired from Reliance Electric Company in 2000 after 37 years of service as an assembler. She was a member of New Hope Church of God and the Quarter Horse Association and enjoyed going to church, gardening, the farm, her horses and her family.

Survivors include her daughter, J. Faith Bowen of Madison; her son, Timothy D. “Tim” Crabtee of Deputy, Indiana; two sisters, Brenda Smith of Madison and Debbie Cook of Middletown, Indiana; two brothers, Kenneth Hardwick of New Castle, Indiana and Roger Hardwick of Madison; and five grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years on May 20, 2011; two sisters, Judy Ellen Grubbs, on July 6, 2013 and Betty Karen Hudson in 1990; and a brother, Elmer Hulan Hardwick Jr., on Sept. 11, 2018.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 19, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will follow in the Kent Cemetery in Kent, Indiana. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home.
