Jeanette Scudder Humphrey, 89, of Madison, Indiana, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2020, at her home in Madison.

She was born May 5, 1931, in Madison, to Francis M. and Hazel L. Sullivan Scudder. She was raised in Switzerland County and attended Vevay High School. The family moved to Madison where she resided most of her life except for a period from 1984 to 1992 when she lived in Kissimmee, Florida. She married George M. Humphrey on April 11, 1955, and they had six children. She had worked for US Shoe Corporation for 25 years at the Vevay, Osgood and Madison plants. She worked 12 years at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in the dietary department and then retired after 20 years with JC Penney in Madison, working in administration. She was a member of the Kent United Methodist Church in Kent, Indiana. She enjoyed bowling, being with her kids and grandkids and watching their sporting events.

Survivors include her son, Mark Humphrey of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; her daughters, Jeanie Watson and Connie Crawford, both of Orlando, Florida and Georgie Humphrey and Penny Humphrey, both of Madison; a special niece and caregiver, Pam Cammack of Madison; and 11 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, several other nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gregory Lee Humphrey, in 2011; her sisters, Dorothy Lehnert in 1994, Lorraine Barringer in 2006, Juanita Sedam in 1994 and Bettie Page in 2020; her brother, Norman “Bud” Scudder in 2003, a grandson, and the father of her children in 1974.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will follow in the Springdale Cemetery in downtown Madison. Visitation is 11 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
