John D. Hawk, 81, of Madison, Indiana, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, at the River Terrace Health Campus in Madison.
He was born on March 6, 1940, in Indianapolis, to Dr. James H. and Elizabeth G. Gottschalk Hawk. He graduated from Short Ridge High School in Indianapolis and attended the University of Maryland. He served in the US Air Force and married Carol E. Edmond in Indianapolis, on Sept. 2, 1978. He worked for many years at Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Indianapolis until his retirement in 1993. Shortly after retiring, he and his wife moved to a home on the Ohio River in Patriot, Indiana, until relocating to Madison in 2005. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Madison and involved in the Heritage Trail Conservancy. He had a dry sense of humor and in his spare time enjoyed working puzzles and going for drives in the countryside.
His life will be cherished by his River Terrace family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Nov. 1, 2007, and by his brother, James H. Hawk.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, at Christ Episcopal Church in Madison. Inurnment will follow in the Columbarium at Christ Episcopal Church.
