Larry Wayne Northern Sr., 66, of Madison, Indiana, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at his home near Madison.

He was born March 27, 1954, in Scott County, Indiana, to John Northern Sr. and Geneva Helen Sturgell. He was raised in Jefferson County and graduated from Southwestern High School in 1972. He married Carolyn Powers and they had a son and a daughter. He worked for William Heater for eight years as a welder. On April 19, 1980 he married Donna Hummel. He had worked for M&M Mechanical Services as a welder and a fitter and retired as a pipe fitter after 20 years of service with United Industrial Piping. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching UK basketball, working in his vegetable garden and caring for his lawn. Larry will be remembered as a hard worker, for his love of farming and cutting wood.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Donna Hummel Northern, of Madison; his son, Larry Wayne Northern Jr. of Lexington, Indiana; his daughter, Beverly Brison of Charlestown, Indiana; his stepmother, Betty Jo Williams Northern of Lexington; his brothers, Roger Northern of Kent, Indiana, Richard “Buck” Northern of Paris Crossing, Indiana, Rick Mitchell of Bargersville, Indiana, Anthony Mitchell of Henryville, Indiana, John Northern Jr. of Madison, and Steve Sturgell; his sisters, Deborah Masterson of Madison, Angela Northern of Lexington and Paula Sturgell; and four grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Madison. Interment will follow in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery near Austin, Indiana. Visitation is noon until time of services Wednesday at the church.

Due to new COVID-19 restrictions, attendance will be limited to 25 people at a time and the use of face masks and social distancing are absolutely required.
