Mary Lou Little Heitz, 90, of Port Charlotte, Florida and formerly of Madison, Indiana, died Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at her home.

She was born on May 15, 1931, to Herbert and Leona Ryker Little and was raised on Rykers Ridge in Jefferson County, Indiana. She was a 1949 graduate of Central High School and married Richard Joseph Heitz on Sept. 12, 1953, at St. Patricks Church in Madison and they had two daughters. She served Jefferson County as the Madison Township Assessor for more than 30 years, loved the community of Madison and enjoyed visiting with those who came to her office at the courthouse. Upon retirement as Assessor, she continued working at the courthouse in the Jefferson County Treasurer’s office. She was active in the Jefferson County Democratic Party and served as vice county chairman for one year. She moved to Florida in 2009 to be near her daughters. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Madison. She enjoyed reading, music and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed watching IU basketball, playing euchre with family and friends and playing the slot machines. She had a great laugh, true spirit and genuine personality.

Survivors include her two daughters, Tammy Crafton of Port Charlotte and Linda Konings of Rotonda West, Florida; a brother, William Little of Madison; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 40 years on Aug. 25, 1994; her sisters, Marjorie Covington and Anna Francis Ellis and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be at noon on Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Saint Patrick’s Chapel in Madison with interment to follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery there. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, on Madison’s hilltop. The Rosary will be prayed at the funeral home at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
