Mellvine Vernon Durrett, 76, of Bedford, Kentucky, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, at his home.

He was born on the family farm in Campbellsburg, Kentucky, on Aug. 2, 1944, to Lewis William Durrett Sr. and Mary Frances Smith Durrett. He was a farmer, a deacon and lifelong member of Campbellsburg Second Baptist Church and a member of Washington IOOF Lodge No. 1513 in New Castle, Kentucky. He enjoyed fishing and was a jack-of-all-trades. He had formerly worked for Purnell Sausage Company in Simpsonville, Kentucky.

Survivors include his wife, Claudette Johnson Durrett of Bedford; a daughter, Laura Frances Jones of New Albany, Indiana; three sons, Robert M. Foree of Pleasureville, Kentucky, Nathan V. Durrett of New Albany and Ryan L. Durrett of New Castle, Kentucky; nine brothers and sisters, Lewis W. Durrett Jr. of Duncan, South Carolina, Martha Hayden and Mary Durrett, both of Louisville, Hazel Durrett and Raymond Durrett, both of Campbellsburg, Curtis Durrett of La Grange, Kentucky, Dwaine Durrett of Bedford, Evelyn Durrett of Eminence, Kentucky and Dennis “Brother” Durrett of New Castle; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, at the Campbellsburg Second Baptist Church with burial at Odd Fellows Cemetery in New Castle. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ransdell Funeral Home in Campbellsburg and from 10 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church.
