Delores “Peggy” Imogene Melton Davis, 90, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020, at Hanover Health and Rehab Center in Hanover, Indiana.
She was born in Detroit on June 28, 1930, to Lester and Virginia Shields Melton. She was a member of Syria Christian Church and Mt. Byrd Christian Church in Milton, Kentucky, where she served as secretary of the Mt. Byrd Missionary Ladies and was involved in many youth programs, singing in the choir and cooking delicious food for church events. She was proud of her teaching degree from Indiana University Southeast and enjoyed her time teaching at Southwestern Elementary School in Hanover. She also worked at Mills Department Store in Madison, Indiana. In later years, she enjoyed making handmade jewelry and caring and cooking for her family.
Survivors include her children, Cathy Davis Ellis of Bedford, Kentucky and Joe Dee Davis of Madison; two sisters, Rose Martin and Barbara Roeder, both of Findlay, Ohio; and three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe D. Davis; her brother, Frank Melton; and a sister, Rita Delehoy.
Funeral services will be at noon on Friday, Nov. 20, at Mt. Byrd Christian Church in Milton. Interment will follow at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church.
