Pastor Roger Allen Smith Sr., 76, of Madison, Indiana, died Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.
He was born May 18, 1945, in Salem, Indiana, to Taft and Pansy Reynolds Smith. He grew up in Salem, Indiana and Medora, Indiana, and attended school there. He married Myrtle I. Mills on Oct. 18, 1964, and they had a son and two daughters. He worked with Smith Furniture in Salem as a cabinet maker for 17 years and at Salem Middle School and Elementary as a custodian for eight years. The family moved to Madison in 1986 and he was a member of Christ Temple Church for 20 years and served as interim pastor when needed. He worked for Contour-Bailey Plastics in Madison for 15 years and was a member of Point of Grace Family Praise Fellowship Church in Madison. He was a woodworker at heart sand built cabinets and other items.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years of Madison; his son, Roger Allen Smith Jr. of Hanover, Indiana; his daughters, Pamela Marie Smith and Melissa Sue Neal, both of Madison; a brother, James Smith of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; and five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Lorene Smith and Joanne Smith; five brothers, Harold Smith, William Smith, Loren Smith, Ronald Smith, Leland Smith; and an infant son.
Funeral services were Friday, July 2, at Point of Grace Family Praise Fellowship Church in Madison. Interment was at Springdale Cemetery in downtown Madison.
