Roger William Smith, 77, of Lexington, Indiana, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana.
He was born Feb. 7, 1943, in Madison, to Lester and Katherine Dean Smith. He was raised in the New Washington, Indiana, area and attended grade school there and later Saluda High School. He worked in construction and carpentry. On Jan. 9, 1965 he married Elaine Miller and they had a daughter and a son. He also farmed and loved being outdoors on the farm, walking in the woods and viewing nature on it’s beauty. He was a member of the Carpenter’s Union in New Albany and had worked at Marble Hill. he was a member of Kent Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years; a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Anderson of South Bend, Indiana; a son, Bryan Smith of Lexington; a sister, Patsy Smith Craig of Madison; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Judy Smith Reed and several other family members.
Private graveside funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at the Crown Hill Cemetery in New Washington. Visitation is 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. Friday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre-Hanover Chapel in Hanover, Indiana. The family asks that visitors wear face masks and observe social distancing.
