Marcella M. “Sally” Paradeis Staley, 97, of Madison, Indiana, died Friday, May 28, 2021, at her son’s home in Indianapolis.

She was born on June 5, 1923, in Epiphany, South Dakota, to Walter W. and Gertrude A. Klinkhammer Paradeis. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Epiphany and was baptized at Holy Three Kings Catholic Church. She married John Francis Staley in Hanson, South Dakota, on Nov. 15, 1947, and they had a son. She lived in Igloo, South Dakota, where her husband worked for the Black Hills Ordinance Depot. They moved to Madison in 1967 where he worked as a Comptroller at Jefferson Proving Ground. She was very involved in the community and a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church where she enjoyed helping with various committees.

Survivors include a son Donald Staley of Indianapolis; a sister, Eileen Bedell of Littleton, Colorado; two grandsons Owen Staley and Samuel Staley, both of Athens, Georgia; and four great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years on Oct. 23, 1999; her brothers, Francis Leo “Fritz” Paradeis in 1989, Gerald Lawrence Paradeis in 2002, Eugene “Gene” Paradeis, in 2006; a sister, Rose Marie Paradeis Welchert in 2020; and other relatives.

Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 4, at the St. Patrick Catholic Chapel on Madison’s hilltop. Interment will follow at a later date at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. The Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
