Shirley Jeanne Wilson Lunsford-Hyden, 87, Madison, Indiana, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at the Jewel Place in Madison.
She was born June 27, 1933, in Columbus, Ohio, to Lewis David and Catherine Lou Washburn Wilson. Her father was in the military so she was raised in many different military installations. She graduated in Yokohama, Japan, and was an alternate for the 1948 Olympics Swim Team to be held in London. She married Carl E. Lunsford, on July 28, 1952, in Carrollton, Kentucky, and they and three sons. She worked for Madison State Hospital for several years as a psychiatric attendant and then attended nurses training in Columbus, Indiana, two receive her LPN. She then worked for King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison for 29 years, retiring in 1996. She married Robert E. Hyden on Nov. 15, 1997, in Clarksville, Indiana. She held membership in the VFW Post No. 1832 Auxiliary and the American Legion Post No. 35 Auxiliary. She was a shopper at heart, loved bird watching and traveling and trips to Derby Dinner Play House.
Survivors include her sons, Carl David Lunsford of Madison, Kevin Joe Lunsford of Richmond, Texas and Keith Robert Lunsford of Commiskey, Indiana; and seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband on Jan. 31, 1996, her second husband on Aug. 6, 2015; her brother, David Michael Wilson; and her sisters, Katie Lou Wilson and Nancy Ann Irwin.
Private services will be conducted with private interment.
Visitation is 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison.
