Stella Romans Bennett, 104, of Vevay, Indiana, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.

She was born on Sept. 4, 1917, in Switzerland County, Indiana, one of 14 children to Wesley Warren and Alice Bryanton Romans. She was raised in Switzerland County and attended school there. She married Stanley L. Bennett on July 20, 1935, in Vevay, and they had two sons and two daughters. She was employed as a stitcher for US Shoe Factory in Vevay, retiring in 1976 after 20 years service. She was a member of the Switzerland Baptist Church in Vevay, and enjoyed fishing, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Gordon Bennett of Rising Sun, Indiana; a daughter, Janet “Peachy” Kent of Indianapolis; her grandchildren, Laura Sullivan, Jeffrey Bennett, Stacey Harsh, Eddie Bennett and Kevin Kent; and 12 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and her nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years on Oct. 5, 1997; a daughter, Betty Jo Lauderbaugh; a son Wayne Bennett; nine sisters, Edith Kelly, Bessie Scudder, Falba Brinson, Iva Courtney, Nadine Furnish, Lela Lauderbaugh, Mamie Morris, Amy Ehler and Hazel Bailey; four brothers, Stanley, Arthur, Isaac and Salem Romans; and two grandchildren, Larry William Fair and Nila Jean Robinson.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery there.

Visitation is 11 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
