Vivian R. Graves Whitson, 86, of Madison, Indiana, died Saturday, July 10, 2021, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

She was born Oct. 31, 1934, in Jefferson County, Indiana, to Freddie Lawrence and Lena Frances Chapple Graves. She graduated from Madison High School in 1952, moved to Indianapolis and returned to Jefferson County in 1998. She married Harold L. Whitson on Oct. 6, 1957 in Indianapolis. She was a certified real estate appraiser for 15 years, retiring in 1998, after previously serving as a Realtor for three years. Earlier in life she worked at American Can Company in Indianapolis in the accounting department for 28 years until the plant closed in 1980. She was a member of Wirt Baptist Church, the Women of the Moose Lodge No. 967, and a former member of The National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers. She loved socializing with others, being with her family and her dogs.

Survivors include her sisters, Janice E. Graves Sanders of Madison and Becky Uebel of Corydon, Indiana; a brother, Larry Graves of Madison, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 39 years on Sept. 2, 1997; and three brothers, Dwight Marvin Graves, on Dec. 8, 1937, Jerry A. Graves, on Sept. 8, 1938, and Lawrence Benton Graves, on March 22, 1985.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Visitation is noon until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
