To the Editor:
A recent article in the Courier reminded the community of the importance of preschool. Enrolling in preschool has become more popular as scientists and educators have found the great benefits of early childhood education. Preschool encourages children to grow socially, emotionally, and, of course, educationally. While many people see preschool as day care, it is more than just babysitting — preschool promotes positive well-being for children, learning through play.
I want to highlight that our community has multiple options for preschool — enough to fit nearly every family with a child between the ages of 2 and 5. Here are some of the great options in the community besides those listed in the recent Courier article:
• Hanover College Childcare
• All Kids Can Preschool
• Hanover Community Preschool
• Southwestern Elementary Preschool
• North Madison Baptist Church Preschool
• Pope John XXII Preschool
Some of these preschools have been operating for more than 50 years and have experienced teachers trained in working with a variety of children’s needs. Plus, many of these have scholarships and sliding scale payment options to accommodate a variety of families.
Obviously I have not had experience with all of these, but I list them for you to see the great opportunities in this community for educating our youth and giving them a step up in schooling. Our community is lucky to have such a variety of options.
If I have missed a preschool, I encourage you to write in and share your positive experience! Of course, with many thanks to all those preschool teachers who do wonderful work, training our children and often receiving low income. If children are our future, we need to equip them for the future.
