Southwestern baseball posted its second walk-off win in three games 5-4 over Eastern (Pekin) at home on Monday.
The Rebels, who beat Henryville in their final at-bat last week, entered the seventh inning trailing 4-1 after giving up three runs in the top half of the frame.
Landon DeAtley started the rally with a leadoff single and scored on Jackson Stockdale’s RBI double. After Jamison Lewis walked, the next two batters struck out. Zach Cole then drew a walk to load the bases and William Stockdale singled in two runs to tie the game.
Cole then scored the game-winner on an error off the bat of Jordan DeAtley.
Landon DeAtley was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Zach Cole got the win after allowing one run on four hits in one inning of relief. Jordan DeAtley started on the hill and gave up one run on four hits in four innings with six strikeouts and four walks.
Southwestern, now 3-0 on the season, headed to Carroll County on Wednesday and hosts fellow unbeaten Madison on Friday.
Raiders fall at Henry County
Trimble County managed only three hits in a 12-2 baseball loss to Henry County Monday in New Castle.
The host Wildcats scored three runs in the first and one in the second to take an early 4-0 lead then blew ended the game with eight runs in the sixth to trigger the 10-run rule.
Dalton Penick had a double and an RBI for Trimble while Jalen Jett singled, had an RBI and scored a run. Jessup Smith added a single.
J.T. Wilcoxson took the loss on the mound after allowing four earned runs on five hits in four and a third innings with five strikeouts and five walks.
Trimble, now 0-4 on the season, faced Henry County again on Wednesday. The Raiders will next compete in the All “A” Classic Eighth Region Tournament on Tuesday.
Carroll pounded by Spencer
Spencer County used a 13-run inning to pull away for a 16-1 win over Carroll County in baseball Monday at home.
The Panthers managed only one hit — a single by Luke Staley — in the loss. Marky Perkinson scored a run.
Jacobi Brewer took the loss after allowing five earned runs on three hits in two and a third innings. Lucas Shepherd and Zayne Satchwell followed him to the mound.
Carroll, now 1-3 on the season, hosted Southwestern on Wednesday and then opens the All “A” Classic Eighth Region Tournament at home against Eminence on Monday.
