Health Inspections

The Jefferson County Health Department conducts quarterly inspections of all food establishments or locations that handle food in the county. Health inspections become a public record 10 days after the inspection takes place.

The documents highlight critical, noncritical and repeat violations during each inspection or follow-up. Critical violations are listed. All records are supplied by the Jefferson County Health Department, which can be reached at 812-273-1942.

88 King Buffet: One critical — Bins of raw meat were observed stacked in an improper way. Raw chicken was found on the third shelf down with cut vegetables and raw fish under the vegetables. Four non-critical and one repeat.

Walmart SuperCenter: COMPLAINT — A complaint was received stating that the store is without water. During the complaint inspection a manager explained that all food prep areas are shut down. The deli nor the bakery are operating at this time. Also, port-a-potties are replacing the bathrooms with a hand wash sink outside beside them. Floors are being cleaned by using gallon waters to fill up mop buckets. No objectionable conditions noted at time of routine inspection.

Aldi’s: COMPLAINT — A customer stated that the cooler that the chicken was being stored in was not being kept at the proper temperature. Also, the cooler was putting off a foul smell as if some of the product had gone bad. During the complaint inspection the cooler was examined. Although there was some sort of smell coming from inside the cooler all of the products were within date and the cooler was maintaining at a proper temperature. No objectionable conditions noted at time of routine inspection.
