Carroll County’s soccer teams both saw their seasons end with losses in the KHSAA Eighth Region Tournament quarterfinals on Monday.
The Carroll boys lost 4-1 at home to Spencer County while the girls lost 10-0 at Simon Kenton.
Carroll County played Spencer County nearly even in every way but the scoreboard in the 4-1 loss. The Panthers had 11 shots to Spencer’s 14, shots on goal were even at 8-8, and Carroll had four corner kick chances to just one for the Bears. But Spencer made the most of its chances to claim the win.
Jack Kennedy scored each of Spencer’s first two goals as the Bears took a 2-0 lead at into halftime. Kennedy’s first goal came in the 30th minute when he collected a hard rebound off goalie Cyrus Tuttle and slammed it into the net for a 1-0 lead.
Kennedy scored again just four minutes later when he drove down the right side of the field and sent a perfect cross into the box that beat Tuttle for the goal.
Neither team scored again until Spencer pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 67th minute on a goal by Carter Ward. Joao Jesus answered for Carroll just six minutes later with a terrific turnaround goal — his 21st of the season — on an assist from Matthew Bright to get the Panthers on the board and give Carroll some life.
But the Bears’ Alexander Aberli ended the hopes for a comeback with a score in the 77th minute as heavy rain began to fall for the final 4-1 margin.
Spencer then lost 4-0 to South Oldham in the semifinals on Tuesday to end its season with a 13-7 record.
Carroll County ends the season with an 11-7 mark as winners of the 31st District title.
In the girls soccer regional, Ellie Dreas scored four goals and six other players found the net as host Simon Kenton rolled to the 10-0 win over Carroll County in Independence.
Carroll ends the season with a 9-13 record. Simon Kenton (9-9-3) faced North Oldham in the regional semifinals in Carrollton on Wednesday.
