Southwestern’s eighth grade boys basketball team won the Switzerland County Middle School Invitational on Saturday.   • Southwestern eighth grade boys basketball won the Switzerland County Middle School Invitational on Saturday.

The Rebels beat Rising Sun 66-17 and then defeated Switzerland County 50-28 in the championship game.

Southwestern is now 8-1 this season.

  • Switzerland County junior varsity girls basketball improved to 5-0 on the season with a pair of wins over the weekend.

On Friday, Switzerland defeated Rising sun 45-29 on the road. On Saturday, the Pacers knocked off Franklin County 51-34.

  • Southwestern jayvee girls basketball fell 39-21 to South Dearborn on Saturday.

Cadence Long scored 14 points to lead the Rebels.

Southwestern hosted Madison on Monday.

Madison junior varsity girls basketball lost to Salem 51-31 on the road on Saturday.

Cam Mann had 14 points to lead the Cubs while Caity Dailey had six points and 12 rebounds, Lilli Sullivan had six points, and Bailey Owens had five points, six rebounds and three assists.

Madison traveled to Southwestern on Monday.

Shawe Memorial’s annual Green and Gold game has been moved from Saturday to tonight at 6 p.m. as part of a shuffling of the boys basketball schedule.

Shawe’s boys basketball game at Medora on Tuesday has been moved to Tuesday, Nov. 30.

The Green and Gold starts with a chili supper from 5-7 p.m. in the Shawe lounge with play starting at 6 p.m.n when the Pope John Elementary boys basketball teams will hit the floor for a scrimmage. The junior high and high school teams will follow.

Admission is laundry detergent or a towel, or $5 and two canned goods. All items and proceeds will go to the teams or the food bank.
