Trimble County softball gutted out a 6-4 win over Walton-Verona on the road in the Raiders’ season opener on Tuesday.

Trimble trailed 1-0 until the fourth inning when the Raiders pushed across three runs on an Addison Edmondson bases-clearing double. Trimble then scored two more runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to hang on for the win.

Maddie Nixon went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Rachael Liter had a hit and scored twice and Lauren Haney had a hit, an RBI and a run scored. Emma Ginn did not get a hit but scored twice.

McKenna Ritchie pitched all seven innings in the circle for Trimble to pick up the win. Ritchie allowed four runs — just two earned — on six hits with 11 strikeouts and three walks. Trimble, now 1-0 overall and in the North Central Kentucky Conference, returns to action on Friday when it crosses the Ohio River and travels to Silver Creek. The Raiders host Grant County on Saturday.

Panthers win at Williamstown

Carroll County softball opened the 2021 season with a 7-5 win at Williamstown on Tuesday.

The Panthers, now 1-0 overall and in the North Central Kentucky Conference, isn’t scheduled to play again until April 12 when Carroll faces Gallatin County in the opening round of the All “A” Classic Eighth Region Tournament at Eminence.
