Southwestern’s Keegan Gross took home first place at 120 pounds in the Providence 8-Way Invitational on Saturday.

Southwestern took home a close 23-18 wrestling decision over Switzerland County on Tuesday in Vevay.

With both squads undermanned, only two bouts were contested on the night and both were won by Southwestern. Cain Weatherbee scored a pin over Bryson Reynolds in just 29 seconds at 160 pounds and Keegan Gross picked up a technical fall in 5:37 over Chazz Hartley at 120 pounds.

Southwestern’s Trevor Wood (170 pounds) and Elijah Weatherbee (126) each claimed wins by forfeit while Switzerland County’s Ethan Jones (132), Gabe Rose (138) and Wylden Washock (145) each won by forfeit. The other seven weight classes were uncontested.

On Saturday, Gross brought home the championship at 120 pounds in the Providence 8-Way Invitational. After getting a forfeit win in the opening round, Gross defeated Greensburg’s Landon Shepherd 8-4 in the semifinals and pinned Trinity Lutheran’s Morgan Frederick in 1:36.

Elijah Weatherbee (126) and Cain Weatherbee (160) each placed fourth on the day after splitting their four matches. Wood lost both of his matches at 170 pounds.

Both Southwestern and Switzerland County return to action on Saturday for the Southern Indiana Wrestling Conference Championships at Southwestern. A total of 18 teams are expected to be in attendance.
